Ag Against Hunger Gleaning - Elective Pack Outing Sat. 11/7

What is Gleaning?

After harvest, there is an abundance of high quality marketable produce left in the field. The Ag Against Hunger gleaning program coordinates the picking of these crops left after commercial harvest and donates the produce to local food banks and pantries. To learn more about this program visit: AgAgainstHunger.org under "volunteer"

How much time does it take?

Volunteers should expect to commit around three hours (9:00am to 12:00pm) which includes driving time to and from the field, orientation and the actual harvesting of the crops. Volunteers caravan in their own vehicles to the field from their cooler.

Volunteers meet between 8:30 - 8:45 am at:

495 Brunken Ave., Salinas

Directions:
Take Blanco Rd. to Abbott
Left on Abbott
Right on Chamberlain
Dead ends at Brunken
on the right is Fresh Network
Ag Against Hunger cooler is behind Fresh Network
Questions? Call Jennifer Caso at 455-7829 or 320-3972 cell

From the cooler we will caravan to the designated field. All gleaners must sign the waiver (located on the website http://www.agagainsthunger.org/ under "volunteer")before participating in the glean; all gleaners 18 and younger must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. For more information, contact Abby Taylor-Silva at 755-1480.

All gleaning equipment and supplies are provided by Ag Against Hunger. Please wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes or boots. It is muddy out there so come in your grubbies!

You will need to bring gloves, a hat, sunscreen and a container to take fresh produce home with you! Give yourself enough time to park and walk to the cooler for orientation. Waivers will be collected at that time.

You may organize as a den or as a family. This type of volunteer service fufills requirements for all Cub Scout levels.
